Install Zetboo on Android (APK)
Zetboo is not on the Play Store yet. You can install it with the Zetboo.apk file, downloaded here. Your phone will show several warnings: this is normal, and this page tells you what to do each time.
Why these warnings?
Android checks the apps on the Play Store. For an app installed another way, it can't know where it comes from, so it shows the same messages for all of them, safe or not. These messages don't mean that Zetboo contains a virus.
Only download it from this page, at zetboo.com. The file is called Zetboo.apk. Zetboo will never ask for special access such as “Accessibility” or “Device admin”: if an app asks for that, it isn't ours.
Button names vary a little depending on the phone brand (Samsung, Xiaomi, Motorola…) and the Android version. Look for the button that means the same thing.
Easier: no APK, no warnings at all
Zetboo can also be installed straight from Chrome, in two taps, with the same icon on your home screen. No warnings, and updates are automatic.
- Open zetboo.com in Chrome.
- Menu ⋮ at the top right, then “Install app” (or “Add to Home screen”).
Still prefer the APK? Follow the steps below.
1Download the file
Download Zetboo.apk (1 MB)Chrome warns you first, even before downloading:
Potentially dangerous file. Do you want to keep Zetboo.apk anyway?
Tap Download anyway
Depending on the version, the message can also be “This type of file can harm your device”. It's the same warning, for every .apk file.
2Open the file
When the download is finished, tap “Open” in Chrome's bar or in the “Download complete” notification.
Missed it? Open the “Files” app (or “My Files” on Samsung), then “Downloads”, and tap Zetboo.apk.
3Allow installation (only once)
The first time, Android blocks installing apps that come from Chrome:
For your security, your phone currently isn't allowed to install unknown apps from this source.
Tap Settings
On the screen that opens, turn on “Allow from this source”, then go back with the ← arrow.
This permission only applies to Chrome (or the Files app). You can remove it after installing, see step 6.
4Install
Do you want to install this app?
Tap Install
5The Play Protect message
Play Protect, Google's antivirus, doesn't know Zetboo yet because it isn't on the Play Store. It may show one of these messages:
Blocked by Play Protect. This app was built for an older version of Android or hasn't been verified.
Tap More details, then Install anyway
Send app for a security scan?
Tap Send or Don't send, as you like
Sending the app to Google changes nothing for you: it simply helps it recognize Zetboo in the future.
On recent Samsung phones, a protection called “Auto Blocker” refuses every app from outside the stores, without offering a button. Turn it off while you install: Settings, “Security and privacy”, “Auto Blocker”. Turn it back on afterwards.
6Open Zetboo
Tap “Open”, or the Zetboo icon on your home screen, and log in as on the website.
For extra security, then remove the permission from step 3: Settings, “Apps”, Chrome, “Install unknown apps”, turn it off. Zetboo stays installed.
Common problems
“App not installed”
An old version of Zetboo is often the cause. Uninstall it (see below), then start again from step 2. Also check that there is a little free space on the phone.
“There was a problem parsing the package”
The file wasn't fully downloaded. Delete Zetboo.apk from the Downloads folder and download it again, on Wi-Fi if possible.
Nothing happens when I tap the file
Open it from the “Files” app rather than from Chrome, and do step 3 for the “Files” app if it asks you to.
Update
Zetboo's content updates by itself: it's the website. For a new version of the file, download it again and install it over the old one: your login is kept.
Uninstall
Long-press the Zetboo icon, then “Uninstall”. Your Zetboo account, friends and messages are not affected.
